After leaving the Bremerhaven – Hamburg route, which is still used by passenger trains, it heads southwards into a region of sprawling geest countryside with numerous pine woods, running parallel to the B 71 through Bevern, Deinstedt, Selsingen, past the former concentration camp at Sandbostel, through Seedorf and Godenstedt to Zeven.
The water encroachments into the hinterland in the Grote Mandrenke (Second Marcellus Flood) in 1362, which reached as far as the Geest near Jever, gave rise to side bays and greatly enlarged the Harlebucht.
In the south of the Osterholz Geest there is a band of settlement from Schwanewede to Bremen-Nord, Ritterhude and Osterholz-Scharmbeck.

This sharply defined edge of geest runs northeast through the parish of Ritterhude and the county town of Osterholz-Scharmbeck as far as the region of Bremervörde.
In the Lower Saxon district of Nienburg the region contains most of the municipalities of Diepenau and Warmsen and smaller elements of Raddestorf, and in the district of Osnabrück, most of Bohmte lies within the geest region.
According to the archives of the Heilige Geest, a religious institution formerly located at what is now the Hofje van Oorschot, they had a fund from 1502 to 1577 (the Satisfactie) for sending good students to Cologne to further their studies there.
It ran across the Wittemoor bog, connecting the more elevated geest at Hude with the River Hunte.
