The Pershing Theater was built in 1918 and was named after First World War General of the Armies, John J. Pershing.
In 1976, as part of the American Bicentennial celebrations, George Washington was (posthumously) promoted to general of the armies of the United States.
In 1975 Biaggi introduced a joint resolution of Congress, Public Law 94-479, to posthumously promote George Washington to the grade of General of the Armies of the United States and restore Washington's position as the highest-ranking military officer in U.S. history.

Both winter and summer uniforms are worn with the full Sam Browne Belt, if a weapon is worn, which was adopted by Col. Schwarzkopf, as the belt gave the wearer a proper "brace" (known by General of the Armies John Pershing as the "West Point Brace;" appropriate at the time since both Pershing and Schwarzkopf were both graduates).

Seven years later he wrote a book about Andrew Johnson called High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Impeachment and Trial of Andrew Johnson which was followed by Lee and Grant: A Dual Biography in 1984 and the 1998biography of John J. Pershing called Until the Last Trumpet Sounds: The Life of General of the Armies John J. Pershing.
