Gensler was the executive architect overseeing the project.
Between 2008 and 2009, the hotel was renovated by Eastern General Contractors of Springfield, MA under the direction of Architectural firm Gensler.
The site was extensively updated to provide new facilities and space for school departments as part of a Private Finance Initiative with the companies Bilfinger Berger, Galliford Try, Gensler and Helaba.

Yet in late November, 2011, Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas), head of the House Financial Services oversight subcommittee investigating MF Gloabal's collapse, noted that Corzine personally lobbied Gensler and his staff that year in opposition to a possible CFTC rule, that would have affected MF Global.
He is a founding board member of the Van Alen Institute, is currently a board member for the Storefront for Art and Architecture, and has been the Gensler Visiting Professor at Cornell University.
