The Bheri River is a major tributary of the Karnali River draining the western Dhaulagiri range in western Nepal.
These valleys have productive soil but were dangerously malarial except to indigenous Tharu people who had genetic resistance.

Bhimnagar is on India's northern border with Sunsari District, Koshi Zone, Nepal with a border crossing to Setobandha village and the (east-west) Mahendra Highway, plus a customs checkpoint for goods.
Zhangmu is just north of and above the Friendship Bridge border crossing where China National Highway 318 becomes Araniko Highway and immediately passes Kodari village in Sindhupalchok District, Bagmati Zone en route to Kathmandu.
Zhongba County has the TAR's southern border with most of western Nepal's Karnali and Dhaulagiri Zones with a border crossing into Mustang District leading through the former Lo Kingdom to its historic capital Lo Manthang.
