The 47° Stormo was equipped with some of the first production aircraft at Ghedi.
Bellini was later appointed commanding officer of the Ghedi air base.
He painted two altarpieces, the Last Supper (1681, 2nd chapel to left) and Glory of St. Carlo Borromeo with the saints Stephen Martyr, Francis of Assisi, Anthony of Padua, & Rocco (1668, 2nd chapel right) for the parrochial church of Santa Maria Assunta in Ghedi.
On the morning of 24 April, he volunteered to lead 2 other aircraft against the strongly defended enemy airdrome at Ghedi.
The following year, he was enrolled to Regia Aeronautica, and after a military flying course at Ghedi, was assigned to 366ª Squadriglia of 151° Gruppo (53°Stormo) with rank of Sergente Pilota.
Returning to his base, he volunteered to lead 3 other aircraft in reconnaissance of Bergamo airfield, an enemy base near Ghedi and 1 known to be equally well defended.
