Gifford Pinchot III is an American entrepreneur, author and co-founder of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute.

The Pinchots, along with Shermin Severin and Jill Bamburg, founded the Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI, in 2002; the first graduate school in the United States to offer an MBA in sustainable business (see Green MBA).

Gifford Pinchot is also the grandson of the first Chief of the United States Forest Service and the 28th Governor of Pennsylvania, Gifford Pinchot.
Later the term was credited to Gifford Pinchot III by Norman Macrae in the April 17, 1982 issue of The Economist.
