The town received some notice in July 2008 in the nationally syndicated American comic strip Gil Thorp as the place to which Milford High baseball player - and illegal immigrant - Elmer Vargas is deported.
The strip was created by Jack Berrill, who modeled and named Thorp after baseball player Gil Hodges and Olympic athlete Jim Thorpe.

Upon Berrill's death, Tribune Media Services chose author Jerry Jenkins (co-author of the Left Behind novels) to take over writing the strip.
From 1996 to 2004, Jenkins was writer of the sports-oriented comic strip Gil Thorp.
The Kalamazoo Kings were referenced in the comic strip Gil Thorp.
