The expedition, led by Gino Watkins, aimed to draw improved maps and charts of poorly understood sections of Greenland's coastline, and to gather climate data from the coast and interior icecap during the north polar winter.
In 1928-9, Watkins made an expedition to Labrador, where he established a base at North West River and explored much previously unmapped territory, including Snegamook Lake.
