He gradually became the leader and captain of the legendary 70's squad created by Pantelakis, built on young Greek talents like Damanakis, Iosifidis, Terzanidis, Apostolidis, Gounaris, Sarafis, Dimopoulos and others.
The rivalry started in the 1960s when Olympiacos tried, and failed, to sign Giorgos Koudas, one of the best players of his time, from P.A.O.K., through direct negotiations with the player.
His partnership with the legendary Giorgos Koudas was one of the most prolific attacking duos in Greek football during the 70's, winning one league championship and two cups.
