American actor John Turturro's father, Nicholas Turturro, immigrated to the United States from Giovinazzo in the first half of the 20th century.

Turturro was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Katherine, an amateur jazz singer who worked in a Navy yard during World War II, and Nicholas Turturro, Sr., a carpenter and shoemaker who emigrated from Giovinazzo, Italy at the age of six and fought as a Navy serviceman on D-Day.

William of Alnwick (c. 1275 – March 1333) was a Franciscan friar and theologian, and bishop of Giovinazzo, who took his name from Alnwick in Northumberland.
