In 1943 and '44, the U.S. Army taught pack mule techniques at a mule school set up near Gladwin as part of the West Virginia Maneuver Area.
From the confluence the Glady Fork flows north-northeastwardly in a meandering course between Middle Mountain and Shavers Mountain in the Monongahela National Forest, through eastern Randolph County into southern Tucker County, where it joins the Dry Fork at the community of Gladwin.
Gladwin's TV engagements include performances on BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 (The Big Breakfast) and The Young Magician's Showcase; a television special where he was hand-picked by Las Vegas illusionist Lance Burton as one of the best young magicians in the world.
The dam lies mostly in the southeast corner of Tobacco Township in Gladwin County, but its most southeastern end reaches into the northeastern corner of Edenville Township in Midland County.
He was born at 44 Tatton Street in the Ordsall district of Salford, Lancashire, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Gladwin (nee Dooley).
