Robert Hébras (born 29 June 1925 in Oradour-sur-Glane) was one of only six persons to survive the massacre of Oradour on the 10 June 1944.
In 1945 he was handed over by the US Army to the French during investigations into his division's war crimes at Tulle and Oradour-sur-Glane, but was released in 1951.
In 1953, he was tried for war crimes for the massacre of Tulle and Oradour-sur-Glane and sentenced to death in absentia by the court of Bordeaux, but he wasn't extradited by West Germany.
He is the author of more than one hundred works, including La resurrección de don Quijote, El bosque de Diana (with libretto by Antonio Muñoz Molina), Ruinas de Oradour Sur Glane, and Epur si muoeve o Paseo de los Tristes.
