In 1957 NASA acquired part of this tract for its Plum Brook Station and by 1963 had acquired the rest of the tract to build additional facilities there.
In order to find out, between 1946 and 1948 engineers at the NACA Lewis Research Center carried out an early research program on supersonic compressor stages.
A small section of NASA Glenn Research Center's Plum Brook Station facility is located in Oxford Township.
