The 10th West Virginia was organized at Camp Pickens, Canaan, Glenville, Clarkesville, Sutton, Philippi, and Piedmont in western Virginia between March 12 and May 18, 1862.

Jerry Siegel (October 17, 1914 – January 28, 1996) and Joe Shuster (July 10, 1914 - July 30, 1992), co-creators of the DC Comics character Superman both attended Glenville, with Siegel working for the weekly student newspaper, The Torch in which he published the Tarzan parody, Goober the Mighty.
The Hudson-Kinahan Baronetcy, of Glenville in the Parish of Ardnageehy, Barony of Barrymore, in the County of Cork; of Wyckham in the Parish of Taney, Barony of Rathdown, Tomiland of Dunclrum, in the County of Dublin; and of Merrion Square North in the City of Dublin, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom.
