Faville, a Republican, served as the first Lieutenant Governor of Iowa from 1858 to 1860 under fellow Republican, Governor Ralph P. Lowe.
He was also the first Democrat to serve as the 16th Lieutenant Governor of Iowa from 1892 to 1894 (under Governor Horace Boies, his party colleague).

He was given a testimonial dinner for 250 people in 1951 at the age of 59 where band world luminaries including Glenn Cliffe Bainum, Albert Austin Harding, Paul V. Yoder, and William H. Santelmann attended (as well as William S. Beardsley, the governor of Iowa).
Finally, in May 1874 the town name was changed to Kirkwood in honor of the former governor of Iowa, Samuel J. Kirkwood.
On February 15, 2006, Judge stepped down as a candidate for Governor of Iowa, announced her endorsement of Iowa Secretary of State Chet Culver for the office, and became his running mate as Lt. Governor.
