A branch of the family settled in Venice in the 17th century, where they changed their name from Gučetić to "Gozzi".
Carlo Gozzi wrote his own version fifty years later, a stage play in which she was a “tigerish woman” of “unrelenting pride.” Friedrich Schiller translated and adapted the play into German as Turandot, Prinzessin von China in 1801.
The Weber themes are taken from incidental music Weber wrote for a play by Carlo Gozzi based on the same Turandot legend that later inspired Giacomo Puccini and others.
