Lanskoj was made aide-de-camp of Grigory Potemkin in 1779 and was introduced by Potemkin to Catherine in 1780.
Ivan Rimsky-Korsakov was introduced to Catherine by Grigory Potemkin after having been vetted by Praskovja Bruce.
In 1787 he went to Russia, where a large army was being prepared for the war against the Ottoman Empire, as a guest of its commander, Grigory Potemkin.
