Adults and juveniles feed off plants including certain Coprosma, Griselinia and Myoporum species.
The young tree often colonizes amongst other epiphytes like Collospermum and Astelia high in the forest canopy, before growing aerial roots down the trunk of its host.
Many families and genera previously associated with Cornales have been removed, including Garryaceae, Griselinia, Corokia, and Kaliphora, among others.
