In February 2010, NII Holdings and Grupo Televisa signed a definitive agreement under which Televisa will acquire an equity stake in Nextel Mexico.
The Mexican company was founded on 25 July 1996, a joint venture between British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB), News Corporation, Liberty Media and Grupo Televisa and was lated launched on 15 December 1996.
One of the main promoters of the Televisa Law was Javier Orozco Gómez, General Attorney of the Grupo Televisa and later federal deputy representing the Partido Verde Ecologista de México and replacement senator for Irma Ortega Fajardo during the presentation of the law.
Major initial shareholders of the company were Grupo Televisa (the world's biggest Spanish-language media conglomerate), Inbursa (an insurance company owned by billionaire Carlos Slim), Avianca (then TACA Airlines) and the Discovery Americas Fund.
