The Lordship of Ahaxe, also called the Lordship of Cize, was allied with the Viscounts of Arbéroue in the 11th century as well as the lordships of Guiche and to the Counts of Biscay.

The anime/manga Rose of Versailles references Guiche as a dukedom when the "Duke de Guiche" (Duke of Guiche) plays a role in the story where the Duchess of Polignac engages both of her daughters to be married to him against their will (one of which, Rosalie Lamorlière, plays a central role in the story).
As the Comte de Guiche, he is a major character in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac, where he is depicted at first as vain, lustful, and opportunistic.

Emancipated on 6 August 1567 (at the tender age of 13), she was married on Thursday 21 November 1568 to Philibert of Gramont, Seneschal of Béarn, Count of Gramont and of Guiche, Viscount of Aster and of Louvigny, Lord of Lescure, and Governor of Bayonne (1552–1580) who was, at the time only 15 himself.
She remarried with Agénor, 11th duc de Gramont (then duc de Guiche) in 1878 who was the son of Agénor de Gramont, an ex-ambassador of Emperor Napoleon III.
