He translated Le Mariage de Figaro of Pierre Beaumarchais, Othello of William Shakespeare, and Gulistan of Saadi Shirazi into Uzbek.
The books he studied include Quran Majeed,Pand Nama, Karimia, Gulistan, Bostan, Fiqh e Ahwat, Usool-ew-Etiqadiyah and Dawat-e-Sofia.
In 2009, Genn embedded himself with the 3rd Battalion 8th Marines at Forward Operating Base Gulistan in Farah Province, central Afghanistan, where he drew sketches of that unit's actions in the Global War on Terror.
