3 unusual facts about Guppy

Guppy

Guppies were first described in Venezuela as Poecilia reticulata by Wilhelm Peters in 1859 and as Lebistes poecilioides in Barbados by De Filippi in 1861.

For example, during the wet season from May to December, guppies in the Northern Range of Trinidad reduce their investment in reproduction regardless of predation level, possibly in response to decreased food resources.

It has also been shown experimentally to infect other fish species including northern pike, guppies, zebrafish, and pumpkinseed.

Aero Spacelines Mini Guppy

Erickson Air Crane used the Mini Guppy to haul heavy equipment until 1995, when it was retired to the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon, where it resides today.

It was the first Guppy aircraft to feature upgraded Allison 501-D22C turboprop engines.

Type XXI submarine

The Type XXI design directly influenced advanced post-war submarines, the GUPPY improvements to the American Gato, Balao, and Tench class submarines and the Soviet submarine projects designated by NATO as the Whiskey and Zulu classes.
