Attila Szekrényessy (born 20 January 1913 in Budapest, Hungary; died February 1995 in Gyöngyös) was a Hungarian pair skater who competed with his sister Piroska Szekrényessy.
Gyöngyös is the birthplace of Hungarian Olympic swimmer Gabriella Csépe, as well as that of well-known sociologist and conference organiser Gyöngyi Horváth
László Polgár (born 1946 in Gyöngyös), is a Hungarian chess teacher and father of the famous "Polgár sisters": Zsuzsa, Zsófia, and Judit.

As a mark of gratitude, the people of Neusatz, being Serbian sympathizers, elected Visontai in 1892 to the Hungarian Parliament as a supporter of Kossuth; and since 1899 he represented his native town, Gyöngyös, in Parliament.
