Johann Leonhard Pfaff (18 August 1775 in Hünfeld - 3 January 1848 in Fulda) was a bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fulda from 1832 to 1848.
When the prefecture became the Windhoek Vicariate soon thereafter, he became Vicar and was ordained as Bishop at Hünfeld in Germany in 1924, becoming the leader of the Catholic Church in South-West Africa.

It is named after Jan Hunfeld, a Dutch journalist whose weekly science page in the Meppeler Courant (based in Meppel) included activities of the Royal Dutch amateur astronomy society.
The Haune flows generally north through the towns Hünfeld, Burghaun and Haunetal.
