Bartlett is perhaps best remembered as the captain of the HMHS Britannic during World War I, from 1915 to November 1916, when the ship was sunk off Greece by a German-laid mine.
In 2008 he was teamleader of the first Belgian diving expedition to the wreck of the HMHS Britannic(-120m).
Gilbow was also chosen as the brand under which a series of White Star Line ocean liners were produced, the models were issued between 1998 & 2000 and depicted the Titanic, Britannic and Olympic liners in various guises, these models no doubt came about because of the huge success of the Titanic Hollywood movie released in the late 1990s.
The White Star Line's third Olympic class ocean liner, the Britannic was painted photographic grey during her construction and for her launch.
