While political parties are technically illegal in Kuwait, Al-Shayji affiliates with the Islamist Hadas party.
In the election of 2008, however, this number was decreased to only three: Jamaan Al-Harbash, Abdulaziz Al-Shayji, and Nasser Al-Sane.

HADAS was founded in 1961 by Themistocles Constantinides to investigate the Saxon origins of Hendon and since has grown to over 200 members covering the whole of the London Borough of Barnet, and addressing all archaeological periods.
