The band was founded from members of bands Gluho Doba (Against Deaf Age) - Alan Hajduk, Adisa Zvekić, Almir Hasanbegović and Adis Zvekić from Zenica and Ornamenti - Brano Jakubović and Vedran Mujagić from Sarajevo.
He twice refused Josip Broz Tito's offer of transferring of Hajduk to Belgrade and renaming it into "Partizan"
Notable natives include politician Petar Gudev (1862–1932), officer Radko Dimitriev (1859–1918) and Shibil, a 19th-century Turkish Roma brigand who served as Yordan Yovkov's prototype for a hajduk character, as well as possibly the noted socialist Christian Rakovsky (1873–1941).
In the unfinished Croatian championship 1944, in the group stage (City of Zemun championship), Hajduk took the last place in the group, behind Dunav, Građanski and Liet, and ended the competition.
However, on 21 July, and after several weeks of speculation, Skoko had finally signed a two year deal with former club Hajduk.

On 3 August 2009, it was reported by Sky Sports News that Kalinić had signed for Blackburn Rovers from Hajduk Split on a four-year deal.
The band released their second album Glasno, glasnije (Loud, Louder) The title track became the band's biggest hit, and at the time of the album release an unofficial anthem of HNK Hajduk Split (some of the Hajduk players sang backing vocals on the song).
Two of the better known restaurants are Şura Dacilor (The Dacians' Barn) and Coliba Haiducilor (The Outlaws' Shack).

He appeared in a total of 634 games (making him third in Hajduk's list of all-time appearances, behind Frane Matošić and Ivan Hlevnjak) and scored a total of 86 goals.
It was replaced as Hajduk's home ground by the Poljud Stadion in 1979, although it has at times been used by Hajduk for matches since 1979, including a game against CS Grevenmacher in the 1997–98 UEFA Cup.
In the 2013 Croatian Cup Final Sušić proved to be amongst the best Hajduk players.
