The Brent Cross developers are the owners of Brent Cross shopping centre (Hammerson and Standard Life Investments) and Brookfield Multiplex.
The legislation laying out the rules for REITs in the United Kingdom was enacted in the Finance Act 2006 and came into effect in January 2007 when nine UK property companies converted to REIT status, including five FTSE 100 members at that time: British Land, Hammerson, Land Securities, Liberty International and Slough Estates (now known as "SEGRO").
In September 2006, Irish property developers, The Cosgrave Property Group acquired the centre from Hammerson.
It was developed by, and is owned by, a joint venture of Hammerson and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.
