3 unusual facts about Hangzhou Bay

G92 Hangzhou Bay Ring Expressway

Clockwise, it follows the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay to Hangzhou, where it turns north and becomes concurrent with G60 Shanghai–Kunming Expressway and G2501 Hangzhou Ring Expressway.

At this interchange, the extra, non-orbital section of expressway to Shanghai branches off to the north while the orbital continues to the south and crosses the bay using the Hangzhou Bay Bridge.

The expressway continues eastward, following the north shore of Hangzhou Bay until it reaches an interchange with the S11 Zhapu–Jiaxing–Suzhou Expressway and the G15 Shenyang–Haikou Expressway in Jiaxing.

Gustav von Senden-Bibran

In the controversy over where Germany should seek a base in the Far East, he preferred Chusan, an island in the mouth of Hangzhou Bay.

Lanxi, Zhejiang

The town lies on the Lan River (Lanjiang), a tributary of the Fuchun River, both north-flowing; the Fuchun River empties into Hangzhou Bay.

Port of Shanghai

By 2005, the Yangshan deep water port was built on the Yangshan islands, a group of islands in Hangzhou Bay, linked to Shanghai by the Donghai Bridge.

Qiantang River

An important commercial artery, it runs for 459 km (285 miles) through Zhejiang province, passing through the provincial capital Hangzhou, before flowing into the East China Sea through Hangzhou Bay.
