Christian Ballard comes from a family of established Detroit musicians which include his great-uncle Hank Ballard of The Midnighters and Hank's cousin Florence Ballard of The Supremes.
His major vocal inspiration during his formative years was the "Singing Cowboy", Gene Autry, and in particular, his signature song, "Back in the Saddle Again".
At Federal Records, a subsidiary of King run by Bass, he turned out a series of R&B hits, including such classics as The Dominoes' "Sixty Minute Man", "Have Mercy Baby" and Hank Ballard's "Work With Me, Annie".
