Ford was a primary opponent of, along with Hans K. LaRondelle, and corrective influence, on the perfectionism within the SDA church, especially its form as taught by fellow Australian Robert Brinsmead.
Ziegler studied at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 1981 to 1984, and went on to receive his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1987, under the supervision of Anders Björner.
He was purchased as a two-year-old by Cincinnati theatre man Henry M. Ziegler and would be sold to L. V. Bell who in turn sold him in 1903 to banker, Edward R. Thomas.
