3 unusual facts about Harby

These figures represent Queen Eleanor of Castile and they were carved for the Waltham Cross, one of the twelve monumental crosses commissioned by Eleanor’s husband, King Edward I, after the Queen’s death in Harby, Nottinghamshire in 1290.

Harby, Leicestershire

Rector - 1596-1598 Robert Snoden later became chaplain to James I in 1614, and Bishop of Carlisle in 1616.

Built by Messrs E. Wragg & Son of Nottingham, at a cost of £210, it was removed when the chapel was modernised for its current use.
