He was ubiquitous at Harvard, having his hands not only in the productions of the Harvard Radcliffe Dramatic Club, but also designing lights for the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, being an integral part of the Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and giving technical advice to productions staged by the Harvard Law School.
On Friday December 13, 1844 Hayward and other members staged Bombastes Furioso in Hollis 11, which began the Hasty Pudding Theatricals.
Many undergraduate Signet members are in other Harvard College artistic and literary organizations, including the Harvard Advocate, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the Harvard Crimson, the Harvard Lampoon, the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra, and the Harvard Radcliffe Dramatic Club.
