Haughey is one of many ballplayers who only appeared in the major leagues during World War II.
The descendants of this royal line include the clans MacDonlevy/MacDunleavy (> MacNulty), and their parent house O'Haughey/O'Hoey (sometimes alternatively prefixed MacCaughey).
This directly contradicted the evidence of Gibbons and Peter Berry that Haughey was fully aware of all the details of the conspiracy.
In 1991 he was one of a "gang of four" including Noel Dempsey, Liam Fitzgerald and Seán Power who tabled a motion of no confidence against Charles Haughey as Taoiseach and party leader.
Haughey survived, and while Barrett was a member of the so-called "Gang of 22" he was not sacked from his office.
