2 unusual facts about Hayles

Electronic literature

N. Katherine Hayles discusses the topic in the online article Electronic Literature: What Is It.

Electronic literature, according to Hayles, becomes unplayable after a decade or less due to the "fluid nature of media."

Buddleja davidii 'Dartmoor'

Reputedly cloned from a plant found growing in a small ravine on Dartmoor near Yelverton by a retired American gardener by the name of Hayles, the shrub was introduced to commerce in 1973 and accorded the RHS Award of Garden Merit (record 678) in 1993 (reaffirmed 2010).

Eustace Robert Hayles

Hayles worked in the mining and pastoral industries in Queensland before 1889 when he purchased a number of buildings and some land in Picnic Bay, Magnetic Island, Queensland, Australia.

Hayles' business continued to expand, offering fortnightly Cairns to Green Island services from 1928 onwards and in 1936 the company introduced Brisbane River cruises in Brisbane, Queensland.
