Rhymer also enjoyed a successful TV career, and wrote and produced episodes of The Hogan Family, Coach, Bagdad Café, Evening Shade, Hearts Afire, Caroline in the City, Chicago Sons, and Fired Up and Fish Police.
The series' title is taken from a line in the Earth, Wind & Fire song "That's the Way of the World" (which originally served as the series' theme song).
She later served as a writer/co-producer on the sitcom Hearts Afire, and writer/supervising producer of Boston Common.
