TV presenter David Dimbleby officially opened the newly extended band room on 3 September 2005.

Heathfield is the son of trade union leader Peter Heathfield (General Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers 1984–92) and the feminist activist Betty Heathfield (co-founder of Women Against Pit Closures during the 1984–85 miners' strike).
Descendants include Mary Robinson, President of Ireland from 1990 to 1997, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, from 1997 to 2002, whose great-great grandfather was John Bourke of Heathfield, a brother of Charles.
The Land Girls (1997) was filmed on the West Somerset Railway and Crowcombe Heathfield featured as Bamford station.
Born Thomas Fuller, he was a grandson of George Augustus Eliott, 1st Baron Heathfield, and grand-nephew of the last Drake Baronet of Buckland, and adopted the additional surnames of Eliott and Drake upon his inheritance of Buckland Abbey and Nutwell Court from the second Lord Heathfield in 1813.
Heathfield town, the principal settlement in the parish, stands at the junction of two roads: the A265 road from Hawkhurst and the A267 road linking Tunbridge Wells with Eastbourne.
Later he lodged at 24 Cromwell Street, Halifax with local electrician Arthur Edwin Blakey and his wife Isabella who was in service, working as a cook at Heathfield House, Rishworth, near Halifax.

General Elliot, afterwards Lord Heathfield, who commanded the garrison throughout the siege, was anxious to bring flanking fire on the Spanish batteries in the plain below the North face of the Rock.
