4 unusual facts about Heiligenstadt


Hugo Bernatzik

Hugo Bernatzik lived with his family in Heiligenstadt, Vienna in a villa commissioned by his father in 1911, built by the architect Josef Hoffmann and furnished by artists from the Wiener Werkstätte.

Konrad Martin

He founded, in 1857, at Heiligenstadt a second seminary for boys and introduced the general examination for priests.

He studied at first under an elder brother who was a priest, and later at the Gymnasium at Heiligenstadt.

Lorenz Kellner

Out of these private courses for the training of elementary school-teachers developed a seminary for teachers at Heiligenstadt.


Etzenborn

The nearest large city is Göttingen, the Landkreis capital, about 25 km to the north-west by road, with Duderstadt just 12 km to the north-east and Heiligenstadt the same distance south.
