Emil died on 3 September 1864, the victim of an explosion while experimenting with nitroglycerine in his father's factory in Heleneborg, Stockholm.
There his son Alfred Nobel and Alfred's brothers experimented with the safe handling of the explosive nitroglycerin.
After the death of his younger brother Emil in an 1864 nitroglycerin explosion at the family's armaments factory in Heleneborg, Stockholm, Nobel founded Nitroglycerin AB in Vinterviken, Stockholm.
