The company "expanded into the North Island 20 years ago and now has a large operation in Auckland in addition to branches in Rotorua, Helensville, Dargaville and Ruakaka."
In 1980, after the daily service between Auckland and Helensville was withdrawn, it became the terminus for passenger trains and in railway terms the northernmost passenger station on the national rail network (geographically the former Auckland Railway Station was further north).
The locomotive and wagon repair facilities saw steam-era engine sheds and servicing facilities at Auckland, Otahuhu, Papakura, Helensville and Mercer all close as well as the 1950s-era Parnell Diesel Depot.
