Mill ponds, weirs, sluice gates and an aqueduct are also part of the museum as well as a 19th-century working waterwheel, fulling stocks and other machinery associated with the finishing of woollen cloth, an original Arkwright water frame, and a Hargreaves Spinning Jenny.
Some years were spent based in Accrington, with working excursions to a planned preserved line at Helmshore.
The exterior shots of the early series were filmed in and around East Lancashire, predominantly in the village of Downham, Lancashire, with some at Helmshore.
Subsequently he was Vicar respectively at St Thomas the Apostle, Musbury, Helmshore (1994-1999), and at St Lawrence with St Paul, Longridge, north east of the city of Preston (1999-2006).
