King Henry II of Germany granted the area around Villach to the newly created Diocese of Bamberg at the Frankfurt synod of 1 November 1007, together with other Carinthian estates like Griffen or the Canal Valley around Tarvisio.
In 1017 the Emperor Henry II of Germany transferred the abbey to the diocese of Bamberg.
When Archbishop Gisilher died in 1004, the cathedral chapter elected as his replacement Walthard, but Henry II of Germany — the son of the old duke of Bavaria — overruled them and appointed Tagino, replacing him as his chaplain with Walthard.
