Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland was imprisoned at Baginton castle following his son, Harry Hotspur's defeat at the Battle of Shrewsbury.
He was reluctant to publicise his generosity, and asked that the building be named after one of his ancestors, Eleanor Dove, when it was opened by the Duke of Northumberland on 29 September 1908.
It passed, on their forfeiture in 1516, to the Douglas Earl of Angus, but was besieged and destroyed by the English under the Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland in the winter of 1532, and again under the Protector Somerset in 1547, when held by Sir George Douglas.
After succeeding to the Dukedom on the death of his father, 11 October 1988, he was noted for planting many trees at Syon House, the Ducal residence at Brentford; for an unsuccessful foray into film-making involving the Duke in front of and behind the camera; for a relationship with Naomi Campbell's mother Valerie; and for excessive and adventurous drug taking.

He was succeeded to the Dukedom by his younger brother Lord Ralph Percy.
His position as a character in the Shakespearean canon inspired the character of Lord Percy Percy, Duke of Northumberland in the historical sitcom The Black Adder, set during the very late Plantagenet era.

Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland, 4th Baron Percy, titular King of Mann, KG, Lord Marshal (10 November 1341 – 20 February 1408) was the son of Henry de Percy, 3rd Baron Percy, and a descendent of Henry III of England.
He might have been involved in an embassy to the Council of Siena in 1423, but still his main area of responsibility lay in the border region.

Northumberland was also among the casualties, and was buried at the nearby St Albans Abbey.
With Lord Henry Howard and Francis Throckmorton he was arrested on suspicion of complicity late in the same year, and for a second time was sent to the Tower.
There he used a telescope to make a map of the moon several months before Galileo did the same.
The Auchinleck Chronicle records that on 23 October 1448 a Scottish Army under the command of Hugh Douglas, Earl of Ormonde, and Sir John Wallace of Craigie won a resounding victory over the invading English forces of the younger Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland.
Coleman is notable for his portrayal of Toby in The Line of Beauty (2006) and of Henry Percy in The Other Boleyn Girl (2008), along with cameo appearances in Primeval and Ashes to Ashes.
It was erected before 1400 to commemorate the Battle of Otterburn, which took place in 1388, and takes its name from Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland whose two sons took part in the battle.
Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland in 1511-12 had various scented waters made for him, which consisted of his usage of over a gallon each week for the year.
This "ancient Catholic family" is possibly the Percy family, as Walpole would have known the Duke of Northumberland and his wife Elizabeth Percy, though this is not proven.
These were Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby, well known as the patron of the acting company Lord Strange's Men; Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland, the so-called "Wizard Earl;" and George Carey, who succeeded his father as Lord Hunsdon in 1596 and as Lord Chamberlain of England in 1597.
Both his cousin, Henry Grey, 3rd Marquess of Dorset, and Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland, employed Arundell in the management of their estates.
