Al-Hibri is the grandchild of Sheik Toufik El Hibri who established the first scout movement in the Arab world.
The stated purpose of the El-Hibri Peace Education Prize is "To honor one peace educator annually with the El-Hibri Peace Education Prize in order to bring awareness of and to promote the expansion of the field of Peace Education."
