Born in 1903 in Hida city, Gifu Prefecture, he graduated from the Departmnent of Political Economics, Waseda University and entered the Asahi Shimbun in 1926.

The road generally follows the route of JR Central's Takayama Main Line, except for a few locations around the cities of Takayama and Hida.
The full name is Hida Ichinomiya Minashi Shrine (飛騨一宮水無神社 Hida Ichinomiya Minashi Jinja), as it was once the main shrine of Hida Province.
Now the line primarily functions as a way to access the scenic areas of Hida (ancient Hida Province), in the rugged mountains of northern Gifu Prefecture, such as Gero onsen (hot spring), Takayama, Shirakawa-gō, and the "Japan Rhine" (Kiso River).
