This road, formerly called Central Avenue Road, was given its current name in memory of Dayanand Saraswati - the founder of the Arya Samaj, an important reform movement in Hinduism.
Later he became a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India and contributed to the notion of nationalism in colonial India.
