The party leader is Hitendra Thakur, a former Independent member of the Maharashtra legislative assembly, Baliram Sukur Jadhav of the BVA, backed by Hitendra Thakur, was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 and declared unconditional support to the UPA government.
He was backed by the strong support of ex-MLA Hitendra Thakur, who gave him the candidature of his political party, Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi (Majority Development Front) which has a strong foothold in the region.
Shri Hitendra Thakur was the guest of honour and the current mayor of the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, Shri Rajeev Patil also shared the honour with him.
