He used to be the referee of professorship promotion for Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Michigan, the University of Alaska at Anchorage, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, as well as a Ph.D. dissertation committee member in Australia and India.
Northcote Close, a road on Hong Kong Island and Northcote Teachers' College (the premises is now occupied by Bonham Road Government Primary School) were named after him.
In 2007, Yeung took over as chairman of the commission of inquiry investigating alleged government interference into academic freedom at the Hong Kong Institute of Education after Justice Woo Kwok-hing recused himself to avoid the appearance of partiality; Yeung was chosen because, unlike Woo, he was not acquainted with either Arthur Li or Fanny Law.
