Hordern-Richmond merged with Lang Propellers of Weybridge, and a new factory was built at Haddenham, near Thame, Buckinghamshire.
He was the eldest son of John Lubbock, 1st Baron Avebury (1834–1913) and his first wife Ellen Frances Hordern (1841–1879).
Hordern married Elizabeth Susan Chataway (sister of the former Conservative MP Sir Christopher Chataway) in 1964.
During the dispute, scenes for the 1995 film Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie were shot on the former property of Hordern & Sons and future site of World Square.
