The brick-based Town Hall for Hilversum in Holland by Willem Dudok (1928–30) was considered significant enough to earn him a RIBA Gold Medal in 1935.

Designed by architect Reginald Uren (1903–1988) in 1933–35, the building shows the influence of Hilversum town hall in the Netherlands and was awarded a bronze medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Scandinavian public architecture was much admired, notably the simplified classical lines of Ragnar Östberg's Stockholm City Hall (1909–32).
